The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears battled the weather and the Jasper Bulldogs last week losing a tough one. Coach Randy Crouch says the Bears did have a few bumps and bruises coming out of the opening game, but the biggest hurt was the loss in the contest. Crouch was very disappointed LC-M did not win the game and felt the Bears should have won. “We just didn’t play very smart,” Coach Crouch admits.
Things do not get easier this week as LC-M plays cross-town rival West Orange-Stark. Crouch states the Mustangs are very talented on offense. West Orange-Stark uses multiple offensive sets while spreading the field vertically and horizontally. The record shows that the Mustangs have an outstanding team with a lot of seniors, and Crouch knows the Bears must have a good week of practice to be ready for them.
The Mustangs are known for their defense, and Coach Crouch indicates they have several players back from the defense that won the state championship last year. West Orange-Stark has played a 50 Defense for years and plays it very well. Crouch points out what you see is what you get from the Mustangs’ “Chain Gang” defense. You have to block them and limit your mistakes. That is what the Bears will work real hard to do this week according to Crouch.
The game is for the Orange Bowl. Crouch gives the keys for the Bears to play with West Orange-Stark and for the rest of the season. LC-M needs to continue with the good effort like it did against Jasper in Week 1, execute on both sides of the ball, and when you have a chance to score you have to score. Crouch looks for the Bears to play solid week in and week out.
Friday night the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears entertain the West Orange-Stark Mustangs in the Orange Bowl. The game will be carried live at 7:00 PM on KOGT with a rebroadcast of the contest Saturday at 7:00 AM.
