Last week the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears mauled the Splendora Wildcats 56-7 for their first win in district. Coach Randy Crouch is very proud of the Bears effort, but now they must get ready for another district opponent.
The Cleveland Indians and their quarterback D. D. Jackson occupy the thoughts of Coach Crouch. Jackson is an outstanding quarterback in Crouch’s opinion who is difficult to tackle and carries the football a lot for the Indians. Jackson is the center of the Cleveland offense and will be a chore for the Bears’ defense to corral.
Defensively Cleveland plays extremely hard according to Crouch. They have done some good things, and the coach believes their record is deceiving. Crouch definitely thinks the Indians have a team that you cannot overlook and must play solid against because they have a lot of weapons. He comments it will take a good week of practice for the Bears to be ready for the challenge Cleveland poses.
Coach Crouch would love to see a repeat performance by the LC-M offense like in the Splendora game against the Indians this week to keep Jackson on the sideline. Crouch praises the Bears’ offense for doing a really good job of controlling the ball and credits his coaches for preparing the offensive line and running backs for the games. Crouch reminds that the Bears are young and it takes reinforcement week to week to get the experience for them to play at a higher level. LC-M may be forced to operate its offense without one key player as quarterback Beau Bickham was injured and may be out for two to three weeks. Maintaining possession of the football is the ultimate goal for Coach Crouch and his team’s offense to keep Cleveland’s offense off the field.
Every district game carries more importance, and Crouch analyzes the keys for the Bears to get their second district victory against Cleveland. Crouch states like every week eliminating the turnovers, limiting the penalties, playing with good field position, and working on tackling to prevent Jackson from breaking loose are the keys for LC-M. Fundamentals are what Crouch is emphasizing to get the Bears ready for this ball game.
Friday night is homecoming for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears when they host the Cleveland Indians.
