In week three of the season the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears lost to the Goose Creek Memorial Patriots. Coach Randy Crouch says despite the loss he is seeing progress in his young Bears.
This week LC-M plays the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks, and Coach Crouch reminds that the Hawks have been a playoff caliber team the last two seasons. Crouch points out Hardin-Jefferson went several rounds deep in the playoffs both seasons and with their first win of the season last week the Hawks will really try to build on that. The Hawks run a similar offense to the Bears, but will go to the spread as well. Crouch is concerned about the quickness and speed of Hardin-Jefferson.
Crouch believes the Bears are showing improvement in several phases of the game and analyzes where LC-M needs to work to be ready for Hardin-Jefferson. Crouch details the emphasis for the Bears this week is to continue to improve where they made strides last week. He thinks LC-M grew up some last week in handling the offense. The defense still needs to cut down on giving up big plays, and the kicking game has got to get better especially in punting the ball. Coach Crouch admits winning a game comes down to a play here and a play there and so far this season the opponents have made a couple more than the Bears did.
Friday night Coach Crouch thinks the keys for the Bears to get their first win of the season is keep doing the positive things they did last week and reducing errors. Crouch says if the Bears can continue on offense controlling the tempo of the game, make more stops on defense and get off the field, and improving the kicking game, while keeping turnovers and penalties to a minimum everything will be fine.
