Two successive blowout wins has the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears in the midst of playoff talks in District 10-4A. This week the Bears play another team in the hunt for a postseason spot the Bridge City Cardinals.
Coach Randy Crouch analyzed the Cardinals. Crouch recognizes that Bridge City is doing a lot of things right and probably should have won their last district game against Jasper which would have had the Cardinals undefeated in district coming into Friday’s game with the Bears. They have an outstanding football team according to Crouch. Bridge City has size in the offensive line, the defense is tough, they are playing well, and the Cardinals’ offense is very tough to defend. Crouch admits the Bears’ work will be cut out for them.
LC-M seems to be clicking at a good time with district play underway, but Coach Crouch knows the Bears will be tested this week against Bridge City. Crouch is pleased with the way the offense played against Cleveland and the error free performance by Paul Joubert as a replacement for the injured Beau Bickham at quarterback. Defensively the Bears need to tackle a little bit better, although the coach thinks they did respond well to the challenges presented by the Indians last week with their quarterback D. D. Jackson. The task facing the Bears’ defense this week does not get any easier according to Crouch as the Cardinals have some outstanding personnel on offense especially.
Contests like Friday’s game between the Bears and the Cardinals frequently come down to a few key plays, and Crouch says the team that makes the most of those five to seven plays will win the ball game. Crouch believes the result will come down to blocking and tackling, that his Bears will be up for Friday night, and it should be a good football game.
