Nobody asked for their money back after watching the Bridge City vs Silsbee game on Friday night.
The two teams went toe to toe matching each others touchdowns with incredible plays, going for it on fourth down like they had a fifth down, and leaving it all on the field until the clock hit :00.
It was only fitting as the halftime score was 21 all. The Cards had 249 yards of offense to 244 for the Tigers.
In the third quarter, BC got the ball and went straight down the field, capping off a 12 play drive with a one yard TD by QB Byron Trahan to take a 28-21 lead. Silsbee then followed by taking their first drive of the second half, needing just four plays to score but missed the point after, making the score 28-27.
The Cards followed with another long drive that put them in the red zone, but a fumble gave it back to the Tigers, who promptly drove down, scored, completed a two point play, and took a 35-28 lead.
BC wasted no time getting back to work on offense, capping a seven play drive with a 14 yard run by Patrick Morris to tie the game at 35 with 6:27 left in the fourth.
Silsbee then took four minutes off the clock, scoring on a 15 yard run. They thought about going for two, decided for the point after, which failed, giving the Tigers a 41-35 lead.
With 2:03 left to play BC moved the ball down to the Silsbee 37 where they surprised everyone by throwing a pass on first down. Trahan looked to his right and threw a beautiful spiral. And although Hunter Denton was covered well one-on-one, he jumped above the defender, and with two hands brought the ball down in the end zone, for a rare passing score. Alfie Heraldez put one through the uprights to give BC a 42-41 lead with 35 seconds left. Game over right? Nope.
Silsbee got the ball at the 39 with :26 left and decided to run the ball. It looked like the Cards were about to put the game away until they committed a 15 yd penalty for a late hit out of bounds that gave Silsbee the ball at the BC 41 yard line. They ran the ball to set up a game winning field goal with 2 seconds left. From 35 yards out the kick had plenty of leg, but it went wide, and the celebration on the home side began.
The two teams combined for 996 yards of offense and a lot of memories.
BC improves to 3-0 and will play Navasota Friday. Silsbee (2-1) will host Huffman.
