There is no quit in the Deweyville Pirates, and after last week there is a win as the Pirates won their first game of the season over the Warren Warriors. Coach Lance Dale is excited for his kids getting their first victory of the season. Dale attributes the Pirates’ success to the hard work of the kids, not only in the practices prior to the Warren game, but also during training and workouts leading up to the start of the season. Dale points out Deweyville cannot celebrate for long as its tough schedule gets even tougher Friday night against the Kirbyville Wildcats who started the season ranked in the top ten.
On offense the Kirbyville Wildcats are led by Jackson Gore who is starting his third season at quarterback. Coach Dale analyzes the talented Kirbyville squad. Dale praises their tailbacks and Gore as well as a strong offensive line. On defense the Wildcats are led by their middle linebacker. The coach believes Deweyville has a good game plan for the contest, will practice hard this week, and will get after them Friday night.
The Pirates have another difficult assignment with Kirbyville, but Dale provides the strategy for Deweyville to be able to play with the Wildcats. Dale says the Pirates must avoid Kirbyville getting their big play offense working. He thinks the Wildcats have been turnover prone early in the season, so the Pirates want to keep Kirbyville away from big plays and let the Wildcats hurt themselves. In the same way the Deweyville offense needs to control the ball and milk the clock to keep the Wildcats’ offense on the bench. When they do throw the football the Pirates will have to catch it, and it needs to be a good play according to Dale.
The Deweyville Pirates play the Wildcats at Kirbyville on Friday night.
