A week ago the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears appeared to be on the outside looking in at the District 10-4A playoff picture. Now after a solid win over Huffman, the Bears are right in the middle of the playoff draw. Coach Randy Crouch is proud of his players and coaches. The Bears handled adversity well especially in the third quarter when the Falcons staged a comeback. Crouch credits the players for preparing themselves well and the coaches for doing a great job getting the team prepared for these games.
This Friday night LC-M plays Cleveland. Crouch is emphasizing the Indians are much better than their record. They are a multiple offense, but the Indians especially like to run the football. Their primary back is Monroe Harding. He has rushed for close to 700 yards. At quarterback is Jett Hendrix who does a good job handling the Indians’ offense. Crouch concedes, “We’ve got to continue to play like we did last week.”
Balance on offense is the plan for the Bears against the Cleveland defense according to Coach Crouch. The Indians use an odd man front. The Cleveland defensive line has a lot of size. They are among the top teams in making interceptions in the district so their secondary is strong. Crouch points out in the Huffman victory the Bears did not turn the ball over, and they’ve got to continue that to secure a win against Cleveland.
The playoffs are a win away for LC-M. Crouch gives the keys for a Bear victory over Cleveland and a trip to the post season. The Indians have a lot of weapons and are a dangerous group. Crouch wants the Bears to focus on having a good week of practice. On offense they need to cleanup a few things, but want to stay balanced with the run and the pass. On defense LC-M made several key fourth down stops against Huffman, and Coach Crouch looks for the Bears to keep doing that.
The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears can earn a place in the playoffs Friday night when they battle the Cleveland Indians at Battlin’ Bear Stadium. The kickoff is at 7:00 PM.
