The West Orange-Stark Mustangs know all too well what the community of Alto is going through.
Cam’ron Matthews, a junior at Alto High School, died Saturday afternoon after collapsing on the sideline during their Friday night game.
During the game he told teammates that he felt dizzy. He later collapsed and was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler where he died.
Students at WOS High School wanted to show their support to the students at Alto by sending them a banner of Mathews, along with signatures and notes of condolences. Other schools in the WO-Cove district also sent paper chain links of support. It was five years ago when the Mustangs lost quarterback Reggie Garrett after he collapsed on the sidelines.
As of Monday, the cause of Mathews’ death has not been announced.
