Orangefield ISD had 15 early voters on Monday even though one of the two candidates for the only uncontested race does not want to run. The ballots have incumbent Dr. Ronald Risinger running for Place 6 against Chris Wagstaff.
After filing, Wagstaff asked to withdraw, but did not submit the withdrawal form in time to meet the state deadline. The board has three incumbents running with no opponents. If Wagstaff had withdrawn in time, the district could have canceled the election.
The district will have to hire 30 people for the November 8 election with pay at $8.50 an hour for poll workers and $10 an hour for box judges. They will each average 13 hours of work that day. In addition the district will have to pay for printing the ballots and pay the Orange County Elections Administration Office for overseeing the election.
State Representative Dade Phelan and State Senator Robert Nichols tried to help the district cancel the election, but Orangefield has to follow the state regulations.
Early voting for the November 8th Deweyville ISD School Board Election is taking place at the new elementary campus. The new campus is located behind the high school next to the football stadium. Voting is from 8:00-4:00, Monday-Friday, October 24th—November 4th. The district has four at-large positions on the ballot. The candidates are Bob Buxton, Julie LaVergne, Rodney Whitfield (incumbent), Luke Smith, Sandra Blakeney (incumbent), Gary Brinson (incumbent), and a write-in candidate, Velvet Maloy.
