Their first district win of the season last week has the Deweyville Pirates and Coach Lance Dale pumped heading into this week’s game with the Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs. Coach Dale says Corrigan-Camden does not do whole lot of different things when they have the football. Dale states the Bulldogs like to line up and run the toss sweep, over, and over, and over again. He explains Corrigan-Camden’s strategy is to run the sweep right at you with the hope there is a missed tackle and their running backs can go to the house and score.
Deweyville got a strong game out of quarterback Triston Gordon in the win over Hemphill, and Dale is looking for more of the same against the Bulldogs. He hopes to take some of the success from the win over Hemphill into Friday night’s game. That means running the two Hensons, Thomas and Mitchell, while working in some plays for Gordon to run and throw using play-action.
The coach gives the main strategies for the Pirates this week are mixing things up and blocking Corrigan-Camden’s outstanding linebacker La’Darius Hamilton. Dale wants to out formation the Bulldogs by lining up some different ways that they have not seen from the Pirates on film. Coach Dale adds most importantly Deweyville must put a body on Hamilton who has already been offered a scholarship to play at Texas State University. Dale emphasizes he’s really good.
Dale and the Pirates would love to make it two wins in a row, and he points out it would be significant because it would be Deweyville’s first win ever against Corrigan-Camden. Dale admits the first key to winning is the players believing they can win, he concludes this would be a good year to end that drought and that’s their goal to beat Corrigan-Camden.
