Robert James Barrow, of the Ruliff Community, passed away at his home on February 7, 2016 at the age of 83.
Robert was born on January 14, 1933 to parents Edna (Wright) and Robert Ellis. He was born in Port Arthur, Texas but moved with his family to Ruliff, Texas soon after he was born. Robert stayed in the Ruliff area ever since, working as a Railroad Engineer at Motiva till his retirement. Robert was a member of the Baptist faith and was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville. He was a true “man’s” man, spending his time hunting, fishing, woodworking, and doing everything he could to improve his home. Robert was a caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who loved the Lord; he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Robert Ellis; sisters, Dorothy and husband R.W. Franks, and Catherine and Ed Cosper; brother-in-law, Lee Waller; mother-in-law Melindia Waller; father-in-law Marvin Waller.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lena Bell (Waller) Barrow of Ruliff, TX; daughters Melindia Barrow of Lufkin, TX, Dee Barrow and husband Avery Burke of Orange, TX; son James R. Barrow and wife Jenni of Orangefield, TX; grandchildren Brandon Barrow of Orange, TX, James Bryce Barrow and Wife Courtney of Mauriceville, TX, Marine Recruit Sheyenne Gros, Kody Gros, Ryan Burke, Mason Burke, and Jacob Burke; great grandchild Brookelyn B. Barrow. He is also survived by a large extended family.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 11am at the Calvary Baptist Church with a gathering of family and friends on Wdnesday the 10th from 5pm to 9pm at the chapel of Dorman Funeral Home. Reverend John Fortenberry will be officiating. Burial will follow at Deweyville Cemetery in Deweyville. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Dorman Funeral Home.
Honoring Robert as pallbearers will be Brandon Barrow, Bryce Barrow, Shane Waller, Larry Waller, Douglas Jackson, James “Hopper” Waller. Honorary pallbearers will be Kody Gros, Marine Recruit Sheyenne Gros, Debbie Permenter, Gibson Waller, Kenneth Hudson.
