Jerry Wayne Carpenter passed away on October 21, 2017, at age 77. Jerry was a native of Orange, Texas and graduate of West Orange High School. Though he worked mainly as a crane operator, he will always be remembered as a tinkerer and inventor. He held several fishing related patents and crafted many of his own fishing baits, which he loved to test on the waters of Toledo Bend Reservoir, where he owned a camp and created many lifelong memories fishing with family and friends. Those who were close to Jerry also knew him as quite the prankster. He loved to tell jokes and call friends and family while using disguised voices. His most elaborate prank was constructing a set of huge feet and using them to trick neighbors into believing Big Foot had paid an overnight visit to his property. When not fishing or pulling pranks, he loved working jigsaw puzzles while listening to classic country music, especially Ray Price. Jerry was preceded in death by his sister Florence Sonnier and nephew John Sonnier. He will be forever in the memories of his brothers Robert and David Carpenter, and his sisters Nelda Morgan and Lynda Scott. “Uncle Jerry” will also be fondly remembered by the numerous nieces and nephews he leaves behind. Jerry will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Orange, Texas during a private family service.
