Armor Lamar “Art” Hughes, Sr., 83, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 14, 2017, from his home, in Bridge City, Texas. Arrangements were made under the direction of Dorman Funeral Home.
Art was born in Dothan, Alabama, October 3, 1933. He moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1952, after joining the Air Force. He was an Orange Police Officer before becoming the 1st Criminal Investigator for Orange County. Art was a member of Eagle Heights Church. His great passion was tending his yard and gardening.
Preceding Art in death are his parents, sister, Delores Oneal Stelly, and brother, Alton Hughes.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn (Fran) Hughes of Bridge City, Texas; children, Melanie Hughes Queen and her husband, Mike, Stephanie Hughes Jones and her husband, Randy, and Lamar Hughes and his wife, Pam; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; and his nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions on behalf of Armor L. “Art” Hughes, may be made to Trinity Baptist Church Building Fund, Orange, Texas, and/or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee.
