The West Orange City Council did not award a contract for solid waste collection and disposal when it met Monday. The council instead has asked Mayor Roy McDonald to review the submitted bids and execute a contract with one of the three vendors.
The committee assigned to review the bids indicated the prices were very close, but each offered different aspects in the collection of the solid waste like different size or number of containers as well as the number of days for collection. McDonald says he will get with each vendor to go over their bids before making a decision. The mayor has been asked to come up with a reasonable proposal for the citizens, the city, and the vendor. “This needs to be done in a very timely manner,” McDonald informed. “With the council not meeting again we need to expedite the situation so that’s why it was given to me.”
The current vendor Waste Management’s contract with West Orange is due to expire in the first week of November. Also submitting bids were Piney Woods Sanitation and Republic Services.
