The City of West Orange has a completed audit for last fiscal year. The City Council approved on Monday the 2016 audit completed by accountant Curtis Craig who was hired in May to compile the audit for West Orange.
The city patiently waited almost eight months for the accounting firm of Sandersen and Scheffer to do the audit, but it was never delivered before Craig was called upon to do it. Craig read some good news for West Orange from the audit. Craig reported that West Orange had a beginning fund balance of $3,417,870 and in Fiscal Year 2016 that increased by $356,868. “Three point seven million is a very healthy fund balance for a city your size, and your general fund has a very good balance,” Craig pointed out.
Mayor Roy McDonald thanked Craig for his excellent work and quick service to get the audit completed in less than two months. He also complimented the work done by the city staff including City Secretary Theresa Van Meter and Ramona Block in accounting for preparing the paperwork for Craig to do the audit. McDonald thanked the department heads in the city for managing their budgets so efficiently and for the job they do.
The Emergency Notification System interlocal agreement with the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission was approved by the council. A resolution approving the Orange County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update was also adopted Monday in West Orange.
The Council approved renewing the health, vision, and dental insurance plan for city employees at the end of the meeting. The West Orange City Council also approved a resolution supporting Entergy constructing a natural gas operated power station in Montgomery County which is expected to go on-line in 2021. All non-emergency departments and offices in West Orange will be closed next Tuesday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.
