The City Council of West Orange voted Tuesday to continue its support of the Orange County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). Mayor Roy McDonald said the council did have questions for County Judge Brint Carlton who spoke in support of a revised EDC. McDonald informed that council members asked the judge about the makeup of the revised corporation and what would be West Orange’s expected financial responsibility to be a part of it. The council agreed to fund the EDC through the end of the current fiscal year at approximately $4,800 which is the same level it contributes at this present time.
The City Council also considered a resolution pertaining to the possession of handguns in West Orange municipal buildings. Mayor McDonald indicated a motion was made to deny the resolution. McDonald reminded that state law has rules and regulations concerning bringing concealed handguns and the open carrying of fire arms in municipal facilities. After discussions the West Orange City Council decided to comply with state law and not add any further regulations to those already in place regarding the state laws on that.
Tuesday’s meeting was the final meeting of the year for the West Orange City Council. The next meeting will be January 11, 2016. That meeting will initiate the new start time of 5:00 PM for council meetings in the West Orange Community Center.
