An 18-wheel truck rig on Martin Luther King Drive hit cows in the roadway early Saturday morning. Orange police report the driver was not injured, but the cows died.
Police were called at 12:27 a.m. to the 1300 block of MLK Drive near 16th Street. Officer B.I. Besser said the Volvo truck owned by Averitt Express was traveling southbound on MLK when it hit the group of cows. The front bumper of the truck was damaged. The driver was a 44-year-old Louisiana man. Police were not able to find the owner of the cows.
A yellow Volkswagen Beetle reported stolen from Missouri City, Texas, was found parked and abandoned Sunday evening in the HEB parking lot at 2424 16th Street.
Officer P. McDonald reported someone saw the car parked and grew suspicious after the driver walked away and did not go into the store. The Beetle had a license plate registered to a pickup truck in Missouri City. When police ran the vehicle identification number, the car showed to have been reported stolen from Missouri City. The car was towed and Missouri City police were notified.
A pickup truck was reported stolen from a house on DuPont Drive Friday afternoon. Police were called about 2 p.m. to the house. The truck is a silver, extended cab 2004 Chevrolet 1500. The license plate is AE57582. Anyone with information about the truck should contact the Orange Police Department at 883-1026.
Police arrested a man for felony possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance Friday night in the 1800 block of Barkins Street. Officers reported seeing an open container of alcohol near a vehicle, which is a violation of city ordinance. According to the offense report, a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the car. Police found a backpack that had a total of 4.5 ounces of marijuana and 22 alprazolam pills. Arthur James Washington was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail.
A pickup truck driven by a 92-year-old man backed into an SUV in the Market Basket parking lot Thursday afternoon. The truck then drove forward, jumped the parking barrier and hit the building.
Orange police were called to the store at 3709 16th Street at 3:30 p.m. Thursday. A Ford F-150 backed into a GMC Yukon. The 52-year-old woman in the Yukon was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas in Port Arthur.
The pickup truck driver told police he was not injured.
