A 28-year-old man was seriously injured Friday afternoon when his motorcycle flipped over several times. Orange police report the accident was about 1:40 p.m. Friday in the 2200 block of Simmons Drive near Blue Bird Fish Camp. Police said Haaymenton Sims of Ville Platte, Louisiana, was driving a Yamaha motorcycle northbound on Simmons. He lost control and went off the roadway, causing the motorcycle to flip. He was thrown from the cycle. Police report he was wearing a helmet. He was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
A driver on MacArthur Drive Friday night avoided a potential tragedy when he swerved to avoid a pedestrian on the highway. Orange police report the passenger side mirror of the pickup truck hit the pedestrian, who sustained minor injuries.
The accident happened about 8:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of MacArthur Drive, a block west of where a 25-year-old woman and her 6-year-old daughter were killed in November while walking across the seven-lane thoroughfare.
Orange police said the pedestrian, 33-year-old Douglas Ship, was wearing dark clothing and the street does not have lighting. The police report said Ship had dropped change in the roadway and was picking it up. He refused medical treatment.
The 17-year-old driving a Toyota Tacoma told police he could not see the man until the last second. The truck was traveling in the inside lane when he saw the man.
A Port Neches 56-year-old man was injured early Saturday morning when his pickup truck rolled over after being hit by another pickup on Highway 87 North.
Orange police went to the 10100 block of North Highway 87 at South Teal Road about 4:30 a.m. Saturday. According to the accident report, a Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on South Teal and a Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling northbound on Highway 87.
The Ford pickup, driven by 29-year-old Jeremy Scott Brown of Orange, ran the stop sign and hit the left side of the Dodge Ram. The collision made the Dodge Ram roll over an unknown number of times, according to Orange police.
Police said David Lynn Lovett, the driver of the Dodge Ram, was taken by Acadian Ambulance to Baptist Hospital Emergency Room in Orange with non-incapacitating injuries.
Brown and his passenger, 33-year-old Brandon Harrington, had minor injuries.
Burglars struck at North Orange Baptist Church on North Highway 87 sometime Thursday night or early Friday morning. An employee of the church called Orange police at 6:40 Friday morning after discovering items were missing from the storage shed on the south side of the church. Police said the stolen items included a limb trimmer and a hedge trimmer. The door knob had been damaged.
