Businessman Mark Frey said he is postponing his plans for an upscale RV park and has withdrawn his request for an economic development incentive. “The costs went up with construction and property and we decided to table it for a year,” Frey said. The City of Orange Economic Development Corporation and the Orange City Council in May approved an economic development incentive of $250,000 for Frey. The agreement was for him to eventually pay back $50,000 of the money. The economic development money comes from a special sales tax that voters approved.
Frey’s plan is to build a landscaped park for RV vehicles on land he currently owns along Interstate 10 West, west of 16th Street. The economic development money was to include $75,000 to demolish the old King’s Inn motel next to his property. However, Frey has not bought that land and a bank holding the deed tore down the motel. The property has a large “sale” sign on the front.
The other $175,000 in economic development money was targeted for the infrastructure of water and sewer lines, plus drainage, at the RV park. The plans for the park include a swimming pool, hot tub, laundry, shop and “rally barn” with kitchen. When he applied for the economic development incentive, the park investment was valued at a total of $1.53 million.
