A Bridge City teenager told Orange police he was talking on his cell phone when he ran a stop sign and collided with an SUV. The collision at 10th and Main streets caused the SUV to hit a fire hydrant. Flying debris damaged a Chevrolet SSR pickup truck parked at Harry’s Appliances.
Orange police were called to the accident at 4:32 p.m. Tuesday. According to the police report, a Toyota 4Runner driven by Patricia Staudt was traveling north on 10th Street when it was hit by a Ford Escape traveling eastbound on Main. The driver of the Escape was 18-year-old Jeffrey Tyler Collins and police said he was given a ticket for disregarding the stop sign at the intersection.
The driver of the Toyota had minor injuries and did not seek medical treatment, according to police.
A child was taken by ambulance to the local emergency room after a collision on Green Avenue at West Orange-Stark Middle School Tuesday afternoon. Orange police said the 6-year-old with minor injuries was a passenger in a car that was turning into the school when it was hit from behind.
The accident report said a Honda Accord was traveling eastbound in the inside lane of Green Avenue with a Nissan Altima behind it. When the driver of the Accord, 38-year-old Iris Renee Tillman of Orange, stopped to turn into the school, the Altima hit her car.
Police said Tillman’s passengers were a 13-year-old and a 6-year-old. Acadian Ambulance Service checked Tillman at the scene and took the 6-year-old to Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room.
The driver of the Altima, 26-year-old Justin Wayne Hasting, was given a ticket for failure to control speed. He told police he had been having problems with the brakes on the car, according to the accident report.
