Orange police were called to a four-vehicle collision and a motorcycle-car crash within minutes Sunday night. Four people in the multi-vehicle collision were taken by ambulance to the local hospital emergency room.
The first crash was reported at 8:12 p.m. on 16th Street at Interstate 10. The motorcycle-car wreck was at 8:19 p.m. at the interstate access road by Enner Road, a couple of blocks east of the first.
Police said a Dodge Caravan was traveling southbound on 16th Street and was stopped at the traffic light. A Kia passenger car was behind the Caravan and a Chevrolet Silverado pickup was behind the Kia.
According to the collision report, a Ford Explorer driven by 30-year-old Josue Navas of Orange hit the back of the Silverado, driven by 25-year-old Justin Wayne Kingrey of Virginia. The pickup truck then crashed into the rear of the Kia, which hit the back of the Caravan.
Navas and Kingrey, along with Kingrey’s passenger, 24-year-old Anthony Uzzell, were taken by Acadian Ambulance to Baptist Hospital Orange Emergency Room. Police described their injuries as non-incapacitating.
A 35-year-old passenger in the Kia was also taken by Acadian to the emergency room with minor injuries.
Police said Navas was cited for failure to control speed and no driver’s license.
In the second collision, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 34-year-old Kenneth Wayne Bahnsen of Deweyville was traveling westbound in the 700 block of Lutcher Drive, which is the interstate access road. A Ford Mustang was traveling in the outside right lane on Lutcher and went to turn right onto Enner Road.
The Mustang hit the back of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist lost control and hit the curb. The Harley landed on its side. Police report Bahnsen was wearing a half-shell helmet that showed signs it had hit the roadway.
Acadian Ambulance EMTs check Bahnsen at the scene but did not transport him to a hospital.
Police report the Mustang driver was 29-year-old Christopher Jack Wright of Orange. He was given citations for expired driver’s license, failure to maintain insurance, expired license plate and unsafe lane change.
