Orange County polling boxes will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday for the election to add seven amendments to the Texas Constitution. The amendments are the only items on the ballot for the county. The Orange County Elections Administration Office reports a total of 1,973 ballots were cast during early voting.
The county has 34 voting boxes and registered voters must go to the boxes listed on their voting registration cards. Two of the box locations have changed. Box 30 will be at the Orange County Drainage District Office, 8081 Old Highway 90 in Orange instead of the Texas Department of Transportation office on Highway 62. Box 31 will be at First United Methodist Church, 11929 Highway 12 in Mauriceville instead of Mauriceville First Baptist Church.
Three of the seven propositions have drawn statewide attention. They are:
Proposition 1 will increase the state-mandated homestead exemption for school districts from $15,000 to $25,000.
Proposition 6 recognizes the right of people to hunt, fish and harvest wildlife subject to wildlife conservation laws.
Proposition 7 will put a percentage of sales taxes and motor vehicle taxes into the state highway fund.
