A person walking their dog in the Cypress Bayou subdivision Wednesday morning called Orange Police after seeing a truck at the bottom of a gulley near The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints located at the corner of Hazelwood and Red Oak.
On Tuesday, a thunderstorm had filled the gulley full of water.
Fearing the worst authorities began searching the gulley while also trying to find out who owned the 1993 Chevrolet pick-up. Louisiana plates lead Lt. Eric Ellison to call Assistant Chief Joey Dalfrey of Vinton PD.
The truck was registered to Eugene Perkins of Vinton. Dalfrey went to his home and Perkins answered the door.
Perkins was not injured. He told Dalrey he pulled into the parking lot when the rain was heavy. He said his truck with standard transmission began rolling towards the gulley. He panicked, got out as the truck as it was going in, hitched a ride home, and apparently called it a day.
Meantime the Chevy was wishing for a levee.
