On Thursday, March 3, 2016 at approximately 11:47PM, Detectives with the City of Orange Police Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Texas Avenue and Lake Street in Bridge City.
Investigators observed a 2000 Silver in color Jaguar north bound on Texas Avenue which was being operated on the improved shoulder of the roadway. The subject vehicle was further observed to cross over into the left hand lane of travel and back.
Investigators made contact with the driver who was identified as David Russell Yates, white male, a 46 year old resident of Orange. Investigators noticed a strong odor of marijuana on the person of Yates and he was subsequently arrested for the traffic violation.
A search of Yates was conducted and Investigators located a usable amount of marijuana on his person.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed Yates to be in possession of approximately 50 grams of a clear crystal like substance that tested positive to be methamphetamine. Also located in the vehicle was a semi-automatic 9mm Pistol and a 22. Revolver.
Yates was transported to the Orange County Correctional Facility where he was charged with the traffic offense, possession of a controlled substance Penalty group 1, 2nd degree Felony and two counts of Unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This case is being referred to ATF for possible federal prosecution.
