The Commissioners Court will consider issuing a resolution Tuesday regarding a new tollway of approximately 10 miles extending from the intersection of State Highway 105 and U. S. Highway 69 in Beaumont eastward to the intersection of FM 105 and Interstate 10 in Vidor. The 105 Tollway would include the installation of a new elevated crossing of the Neches River and would be a shorter route from Orange County to the north Beaumont area with considerably less traffic expected. County Judge Brint Carlton said the new toll road is being proposed by the Texas Turnpike Corporation which has produced several other private-public toll roads in the state. Carlton indicated the project has received good support from the Vidor area, and would not cost the county any funds to accomplish. The Texas TurnpikeCorporation has been talking with the county to help with negotiations to help secure their funding for the project eventually through the Texas Department of Transportation. Judge Carlton added that no firm date has been set for construction to start on the tollway. Carlton did predict that since there is no need for public funding from the county that if negotiations continue on the current path the project could be done in the next 3 or 4 years.
