Three businesses on 16th Street had glass shattered during the early darkness Monday and money was taken from an ATM inside the Family Dollar. “We are investigating these as being connected,” Orange Detective Captain Robert Enmon said.
Patrol officers report an alarm went off about 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Market Basket, 3709 16th Street. Officer J.L. Goins said the glass on the north public entrance side had been broken and the glass into the foyer was also broken. However, no one was inside and nothing has been reported missing.
Employees at Dollar General, 1301 16th Street discovered the break-in at 4:50 a.m. Monday. Captain Enmon said someone apparently used a hammer or hammer-like tool to break a window to get inside. Once in the store, the burglar or burglars cut into the side of an ATM and took cash.
At 5:54 a.m., an employee at the Diamond Shamrock, 3900 16th Street, called police after discovering the front door glass had been broken. Nothing has been reported missing.
