One of two males breaking into trucks at the Orange Boat Ramp Sunday morning was caught after a police chase. Officer Logan Holland reported that another officer used a Taser stun to get the 16-year-old to comply with orders to put his hands behind his back.
Officer Holland was called to the Boat Ramp off Simmons Drive at 7:13 Sunday morning after people saw two males break into a truck. The patrolman reported that he saw a black male and a white male holding a hatchet in a grassy area. When he ordered them to come to him, they ran off.
Police caught the juvenile in the area around the apartments at 111 Pine Avenue. Two other pickup trucks at the Boat Ramp parking lot had also been burglarized. Missing items included a Glock pistol, Glock ammunition, Tom Tom GPS navigators and cash.
Officer Holland said the 16-year-old arrested had cash, cigarettes, two Tom Tom navigators and ammunition. In addition to the burglary and evading arrest charges, the youth is facing a charge of failure to identify because of giving three different dates for his birth. The youth was taken to the Minnie Rogers Juvenile Detention Center in Beaumont.
Later Sunday morning, about 10:30, a woman working at the nursing home on Third Street near the apartments reported that her car had been burglarized. A Tom Tom navigator and a cell phone had been stolen.
