A ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday morning, August 14, at 8:00 in Bridge City to celebrate the completion of construction on the swing bridge for Texas Highway 87 over Cow Bayou. Sarah Dupre with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) said the reconstruction project of the historical swing bridge began in January of 2014, and had the northbound traffic on Highway 87 transferred to share the adjacent bridge with southbound traffic. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be followed with a public display of opening the swing bridge. Dupre stated that Friday’s special ceremony does not officially mark the reopening of the bridge to vehicle traffic. Dupre indicated the routing of traffic and other various lane changes will be done by TxDOT over the next few weeks, but they are still planning to have the bridge open to traffic by the start of schools in Bridge City on August 24, which Dupre added has TxDOT and Bridge City residents ready to celebrate that.
