A thunderstorm moved through the county about 1:30 Tuesday afternoon, bringing lightning and dumping more than an inch of rain. More storms were on the way for the evening.
A lightning strike knocked out power to about 400 Entergy customers in the Brownwood and Clairmont areas, plus the north part of Simmons Drive and along Interstate 10. Power was restored after about two hours.
Lightning struck a house in the 600 block of Gardenia Street and the Orange Fire Department went to check the house after the residents smelled smoke and said smoke was coming from some of the outlets. No fire was found.
The rain gauge at the Orange County airport had a little more than an inch during the storm and also had a 25 mile per hour gust of wind. The rain gauge at Pier Road near downtown Orange had almost an inch and a half.
