A man under indictment for murder in connection with killing a woman from Orange in 2012, pleaded guilty Tuesday to reckless manslaughter in Beaumont. 39-year-old David Carl Smith received a punishment of 10 years in prison for the death of 26-year-old Amber Nicole Guillory Glisson in a Vidor hotel.
Smith was in Judge John Stevens state district court in Jefferson County when the plea was made. Testimony was set to begin Tuesday for his murder trial.
A fisherman found Guillory Glisson’s body floating off Pleasure Island in Port Arthur on December 7, 2012. Port Arthur police said she was killed at the Budget Inn in Vidor and her body was dumped in Sabine Lake at the island.
Smith left for The Netherlands within a month after Guillory Glisson’s death. Authorities there kept him in a prison for the murder charge from Jefferson County for two years before he was extradited back to Texas a year ago.
