An SUV rolled over after hitting a culvert off North Highway 62 Sunday night and the driver had to be taken to a Beaumont hospital. It was one of three accidents with injuries that Orange police investigated during the rains on Sunday.
The roll-over happened about 11:30 p.m. in the 9800 block of North Highway 62 in Mauriceville near Arabie Road. 36-year-old Matthew Key of Kirbyville was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Officer M.C. Bernard reported Key’s Toyota 4-Runner was traveling north and went off the roadway to the left. It traveled in a ditch for about 100 yards and hit a culvert. That caused the SUV to go airborne. It rolled over a few times before landing on the roof.
About 10 Sunday night, a Nissan Rogue hit a Toyota Corolla in the 1400 block of 16th Street. The driver of the Corolla was 56-year-old Barbara Day Cormier of Orange and she was taken by Acadian to the Baptist Orange Emergency Room.
Officer T.P. Pruitt said Cormier was traveling northbound in the inside lane. The Nissan Rogue, driven by 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur of Orange, tried to cut across 16th Street from the Star Stop on the east side to the convenience store on the west side at the corner of 16th and Burton. Officer Pruitt gave a ticket for failure to yield right of way to Kaur. Kaur had minor injuries but did not go to a hospital.
A 21-year-old passenger in the Corolla and a 20-year-old passenger in the Rogue were not injured.
A 17-year-old Kirbyville woman was injured when the Nissan Altima she was driving was hit by a GMC Sierra pickup truck that crossed into her lane. Officer Bernard said the driver of the pickup got out of the truck and ran away. The collision was at 1:48 Sunday afternoon in the 2800 block of 16th Street. Kyla Hughey was taken by Acadian to the Baptist Orange Emergency Room. The 16-year-old passenger in the car was not injured.
Three thefts were reported to Orange police Friday by people who had items stolen from their front yards or porches. A man who lives in the 2200 block of Norwood Street said someone stole two new Texas license plates on Thursday. He was putting the new plates on his pickup truck when his telephone rang inside the house. He left the two plates on his bumper and went inside to answer the phone. He went back outside a few minutes later and the license plates, GHT 5653, were missing.
At 1 Friday afternoon, a resident in the 900 block of Link Avenue told police his AT&T smartphone and tablet were taken from his front porches. Also on Friday afternoon, a man living in the 1300 block of John Avenue had a $100 battery stolen from his yard.
