Orange City Councilmember Dr. Wayne Guidry, who is an administrator with the West Orange-Cove school district, has been selected as the lone finalist for superintendent of the Hubbard ISD.
It will be the first superintendent’s job for Guidry, who is currently the executive director of operations for West Orange-Cove. He is a graduate of Orangefield High and the University of Texas. His wife, Julie, is a counselor for the Little Cypress-Mauriceville district.
The Hubbard ISD has about 380 students.
“Unfortunately, it’s bittersweet for me and my family,” he said. He’s been in Orange for 35 years and the family has roots here.
“We’re indebted to everyone around,” he said. “But it’s exciting and a chance to be a superintendent.
Guidry will be leaving West Orange-Cove for his new job and expects to start on Monday, April 24. The Hubbard school board will meet on April 21 to confirm the hiring, as required by state rules.
His wife and children will finish the school year at LC-M. One of their children is in college and a son is graduating this year from LC-M High School. They also have children ages 8 and 10.
Guidry will resign from the Orange City Council. He has served two years on the council. His first year he ran unopposed for an unexpired term. Then last year, he won his first full, three-year term, also running unopposed. Two years will remain on his term. He holds the single-member District 3 seat representing the Little Cypress area.
He said city staff is researching how to fill the position and whether an election will need to be called. It is too late for the position to be on the May 6 ballot.
