A 56-year-old woman underwent surgery Monday for a fractured leg after an armed robber pushed her down when she refused to give him money early Sunday morning. She was at her house across from Sunset Park.
It was the second attempted armed robbery in about 48 hours in the same neighborhood. Workers unloading a truck behind HEB early Friday morning were threatened by a gunman. They foiled the robbery by running inside and setting off the fire alarm.
In addition, two burglaries were reported in the neighborhood during the weekend.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said investigators at this time do not see a connection between the four crimes, though the robberies may be related, as may be the burglaries.
The woman was at the front door on her porch about 4:20 a.m. Sunday when a man holding a pistol came up to her and wanted money. The woman told him she wasn’t going to give him anything. He ended up pushing her down. Captain Enmon said her thigh bone was fractured in the fall.
The robber ran away. He is described as being black, about 5-feet-8 with a slim build and in his mid to early 20s. He was wearing jeans and a T-shirt, had had a cloth covering his face.
An armed man tried to rob workers at HEB, 2424 16th Street, at 3:40 a.m. Friday. Police said a man was at the back door unloading a truck when a robber with a pistol came up, pointed the gun at him, and demanded money.
The man and another worker ran up to the front of the store and pulled a fire alarm as someone else called 911. The robber left without getting anything.
Anyone with information about the robberies should contact Orange detectives at 883-1095.
