Orange County Health Inspector James Scales had to temporarily shut down a Mauriceville convenience store on October 6 because of plumbing problems that caused human feces to come up from the floor drains.
Texas Country Store, 9508 Highway 12, was closed about three and a half hours to repair the plumbing. Scales reported he did not give the store a score during his inspection call that day. He said the store did not have running hot water at the hand-washing and dish sinks. All the floor drains were stopped up and the feces were coming up from those drains. The store still needs to address problems with gnats and needs to clean all food contact surfaces. In addition, the store needs to remove broken and unused equipment.
The store was one of 21 food service businesses Scales inspected during the first two weeks of October. Nine of the places, including four school cafeterias, had perfect 100 scores.
The ones getting perfect scores are A.R. & Sons Tamales on Katherine Street in West Orange, Waffle House on 27th Street in Orange, Showbiz Cinema in Orange, Wendy’s on Highway 62 in McLewis, Joann’s Family Kitchen on Green Avenue in Orange, West Orange-Stark Elementary, Bridge City Intermediate, Little Cypress Elementary and Orangefield Junior High.
