September 28 had a warm fall evening. At the Sabine Park Apartments, people usually congregate in the main parking lot to socialize or sit out on a stoop. A little after 8 that evening, 20-year-old Jeremiah Klinkhammer was shot to death in the parking lot. Orange Police Captain Robert Enmon said someone must have seen the shooting or what led to it. Investigators though, have not found someone who can lead to the person who pulled the trigger.
“We’ve knocked on every door out there,” he said about the sprawling apartment complex between Pine Avenue and Simmons Drive.
Klinkhammer, a 2014 graduate of West Orange-Stark High School, died at the apartment complex two weeks ago Wednesday. No arrests have been made, but police continue to search for his killer.
“We talk to people every day,” Enmon said. People in the community have been calling in tips and information. Detectives encourage the information and follow up on the tips. “We’ll take anything we can get,” Enmon said.
Police believe Klinkhammer was in the parking lot when he was shot in the chest with a pistol. A patrol officer was already on the way to the complex after a dispatcher received calls about a disturbance.
While combing the scene, police found a pistol under a parked car, but it had not been fired.
Anyone with information on the shooting or who knows someone who might have witnessed it should contact the Orange Police Department at 409-883-1026.
