Orange police on Friday had to deal with two incidents involving guns being fired. Numerous citizens called to report the guns.
In one incident, three men wearing camouflage and tactical vests were at Lions Den Park on Main Street with rifles about 6:40 Friday night. Officer Logan Holland reported the guns turned out to be airguns but the resembled real weapons, including one that looked like an AR-15.
Police first confiscated the guns and then returned them after informing the men about the city ordinance prohibiting firing firearms.
In the other case, a man was firing a BB rifle and pointing it at people around Blue Bird Park on Simmons Drive. Also, the door at nearby Texas Legend Distillery had been shot out, though nothing was stolen.
The broken door was reported about 8 Friday morning and 40 minutes later calls were coming in about the man pointing a rifle at people.
Officer Patrick McDonald said he saw a man at Blue Bird holding a 66 Powermaster BB gun, pointing it at a wooded area and firing it.
Officer McDonald reported 33-year-old David Nehemiah Diaz was arrested for violating the misdemeanor city ordinance of discharging a firearm. Office McDonald said police had warned him several times about not firing the gun in the city limits.
Police said Diaz was taken to the Orange County Jail but couldn’t be photographed because he was kicking.
