Detective Captain Robert Enmon said Orange police have “some people of interest we are looking for to question” in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man last night.
Justice of the Peace David Peck ruled the death of Jeremiah Aaron Klinkhammer as a homicide.
Captain Enmon said Klinkhammer died after being shot in the chest by a pistol. Investigators believe he was shot while in the large parking lot of the Sabine Park Apartments at 111 Pine Avenue off Simmons Drive. After Klinkhammer was shot, he managed to travel a short distance before dying near apartment units, the captain said.
A pistol was found under a car in the parking lot but it had not been fired, according to Captain Enmon. Klinkhammer’s address was in West Orange and not at the complex.
Orange police were called to the complex at 8:13 p.m. Wednesday because of a disturbance. By the time the patrol officer arrived, numerous people had called the police department to report hearing gunshots.
Captain Enmon said police have been getting a number of phone calls from concerned citizens giving “helpful” information.
No arrests had been made as of late Thursday afternoon.
Funeral services for Klinkhammer will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016, at Community Christian Church in Orange. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.
