A 2-by-4 board blocked a burglar from getting into the back door of the Smoker’s Express on 16th Street early Tuesday morning. Orange Police Officer Patrick McDonald reported the burglar apparently injured himself while breaking down the door because police found blood. McDonald checked the store about 1:19 a.m. because when he was on patrol he heard an alarm sound from the back door. When breaking down the door, the would-be burglar set off an exit alarm. Officer McDonald found the door knob missing and the metal door had been forced open. However, the board blocked anyone from getting inside. The store’s manager produced a surveillance recording that showed a man wearing shorts and a baseball cap walking around outside the store. Nothing inside was missing.
