Many municipalities throughout Texas have been forced to pass resolutions this month banning fire arms from their city halls because of the Texas Open Carry Law which goes into effect in January. City Administrator Robbie Hood said Pinehurst was not required to pass a resolution because of the dual purposes of the City Hall. Hood informed that the Pinehurst City Hall serves not only as the City Council Chamber, but also the municipal court. State Law already prohibits firearms in a municipal court so Pinehurst has wording on the entrance to the City Hall informing that the building is used as a court and thus Pinehurst does not need a resolution like other city councils have passed.
Moving into the New Year Hood wants to update and make the Pinehurst website more user-friendly to help promote the city. Hood would like to see the city website modernized to where a click of button would take visitors to various sections which would help interested businesses in coming to Pinehurst. He added that former council member Matthew Chandler has been working with Hood on the website and it is expected to be completed in two or three months. Hood said the new website will cover all City of Pinehurst departments and he wants to put information about the county on that website.
The tragic auto pedestrian accident of a month ago has caused city officials in Pinehurst and Orange to meet and discuss the lighting on MacArthur Drive. Pinehurst City Administrator Robbie Hood commented he and officials from Orange met with Entergy to discuss ways to improve the lighting on MacArthur which is bordered by the city limits of both Pinehurst and Orange. Hood said Entergy has added some new lighting near one of the pedestrian crossings on MacArthur, and he believes it is working pretty well in that area. Further lighting could be added in the near future as the cities are also working with TxDOT since MacArthur is part of the state highway system as State Highway 87.
No action was needed, but the Pinehurst City Council did voice its support for City Administrator Hood to create a Planning and Zoning Commission Board which will not implement zoning regulations, but will serve as a tool to help businesses relocate to Pinehurst. The council approved Tuesday the election of Shon Branham as fire chief and Mike Moses as assistant chief of the Pinehurst Volunteer Fire Department.
