Republic Services will continue to be the garbage collector in the city of Pinehurst for another three years. The Pinehurst City Council approved the three year contract Tuesday evening with Republic at no increase in price for residential and commercial customers.
Bill Voigtman with Republic said the company will pick up the garbage once a week and each residence will be given a 93-gallon container on wheels to put their garbage. Voigtman pointed out his 5-year old son pushes his family’s garbage container to the street, but added that if there are Pinehurst citizens who need assistance with the container Republic employees will walk up and get it for them. Citizens needing the assistance with their garbage cans are asked to contact the Pinehurst City Hall and their names will be put on a list which will be given to Republic. Residences will also be allowed to have two bulk items placed by their containers each week that will be picked up with the garbage.
The Pinehurst City Council amended the agreement between the city and the West Orange Cove School District for garbage collection Tuesday. City Administrator Robbie Hood indicated the amendment is to get the West Orange Cove Elementary School’s garbage pickup in line with other commercial customers in Pinehurst. Hood reminded that when the school was built in 2011 the city granted it a lower rate as an economic incentive, but now their garbage rate will be the same as the normal commercial user.
The City Council also re-approved an inter-local agreement with the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission concerning the 9-1-1 Emergency Network.
