A Little Cypress teenager was injured Friday night after her SUV hit a feral hog on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in the vicinity of the First Church of the Nazarene. Orange police said a 200 to 250 pound hog ran across the road in the 5000 block. After the Honda HR-V hit the hog, it veered off the roadway into a ditch.
The collision was about 9:30 Friday night. Police report 18-year-old Cierra Lanee Cezar suffered non-incapacitating injuries. Her mother took her to a hospital for treatment.
An 18-year-old driver was taken by ambulance to a Port Arthur hospital about noon Friday after a collision on Highway 87 North at West Bluff Road. Orange police said Melanie Denise Maglothin was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on Highway 87. She was traveling behind a Dodge pickup truck pulling a low-boy trailer.
The pickup and trailer slowed to turn onto West Bluff Road and the Nissan hit the back of the trailer, causing it to hit the back of the pickup. Police report the driver and passenger in the pickup were not hurt.
Maglothin was taken by Acadian Ambulance to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas for treatment of non-incapacitating injuries. Police report she was given a ticket for failure to control speed.
A purse, wallet and cash were stolen from an unlocked car parked in a driveway. The owner called Orange police about 10 a.m. Friday morning to report the theft in the 1000 block of Clairmont Drive.
On Saturday morning, a resident of the apartments at 111 Pine Avenue reported a burglary. The woman found her front door partly open. Inside furniture had been moved and trash was strewn. Someone had also stolen several pounds of pork chops and ground beef from the freezer. Police report the front door frame was broken.
