A pickup truck ran into the front porch of a house on 14th Street in Orange Tuesday morning. Orange police report the 44-year-old driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Officer J.E. Roy gathered loose anti-anxiety prescription pills and a cold beer as evidence. No injuries were reported and Officer Roy said damage to the porch was minor. The accident was reported at 9:30 in the 1200 block of 14th Street. Officer Roy said when he got there a 1985 Chevrolet pickup truck was against the concrete slab of the porch. The driver was attempting to drive the truck forward. The patrolman turned off the ignition. Marcus Crew was taken to Baptist Emergency Room in Orange by Acadian Ambulance to be checked before he was taken to the Orange County Jail for the driving under the influence charge.
A 23-year-old woman was arrested Saturday morning for felony aggravated assault in connection with a knife attack on a 50-year-old man described by Orange police as his “common-law wife.” Officer Patrick McDonald reported the man was cut but not seriously injured. Police confiscated a pocket knife and a large kitchen knife. Officer McDonald went to the house in the 400 block of Gardenia Street at 9:15 a.m. Saturday. The man told the officer that the incident started at 12:30 a.m. when the woman complained that no one would listen to her. The man took her on a ride to calm her.
While in the vehicle, she grabbed a pocket knife and tried to stab him. The man had a cut on his hand. The victim said he drove the woman back to the house. About 3 a.m. she started breaking windows at the house and then grabbed a large kitchen knife. According to the man, she swung the knife at him and went outside and cut tires on a car and tried to break more windows. Then she went inside and lay down and went to sleep.
After she woke up, she went outside and got a plastic rake with a wooden handle. When the man went outside, she hit him in the back with the rake. Relatives inside the house called police. Officer McDonald reported people inside gave witness reports but the woman’s brother refused to give one.
Meghan Kylean Smith was arrested for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Officer McDonald said the suspect tried to kick out a window in the police vehicle and officers used an ankle cuff. She was taken to the Orange County Jail but a mug shot could not be made because she was uncooperative, McDonald reported.
Police often call unauthorized use of a motor vehicle “joy riding.” Apparently that’s what happened to a boat that was reported stolen from a yard on Adam’s Bayou early Sunday morning. The boat was back at the dock Sunday night. Orange police were called to a house in the 500 block of New York Street. The owner said his $20,000 boat had been tied up at the dock behind his house. About 8 that night, he called to tell officers that the boat was back and was not damaged.
Orange police went to a house in the 1000 block of Fourth Street early Saturday morning. A woman in the house reported at 4:22 a.m. that a man had knocked on her door. She said opened the door and the man came inside without her permission and assaulted her, then took her money and property and left. The police report did not say that the woman required medical attention.
Sunday afternoon, a woman living in the 1500 block of Fourth Street called Orange police to her house. She told Officer Patrick McDonald that she let a young man into her house to use the restroom and that he stole her handbag with cash and documents.
Orange police went twice Monday night because of domestic disturbances at a house in the 200 block of College Street. A woman was cited with misdemeanor offenses of disturbing the peace for using profane language and public intoxication. The first time officers went to the house was at 8:10 p.m. then they returned at 10:13. Officer J.L. Goins reported the woman was arguing with the father of her young child. The father took the child to his house and the woman was determined to get the child back. Her efforts included taking her mother’s pickup truck, which police stopped for a traffic violation. The officer said the father was sober and able to take care of the child.
