A Bridge City man went to jail for possession of methamphetamine early on the morning of his 30th birthday Sunday. A man riding in the car with him was arrested for evading arrest after he ran away when police stopped their car on 16th Street in Orange.
Officer Nicholas Medina reported he saw Hyundai with a defective headlight traveling northbound on 16th Street at 12:42 a.m. Sunday. When the officer turned around and turned on his emergency lights to stop the car, the car turned onto West Hart Avenue.
Officer Medina saw the passenger side of the door open and a man dropped something outside. Before the car could stop, the passenger ran south on 15th Street through a yard.
The patrol officer reported the driver made sudden movements inside the car; so the officer ordered the driver to show his hands. The driver, Adam Micah Baltius (left), 30, complied and was handcuffed.
Other officers searched the area and found the man who had run away hiding behind a garbage can at Jerry Hughes Realty office. 57-year-old Kenneth Wheeler Copeland (right) of Bridge City was arrested for evading detention. He also had three arrest warrants issued through Orange Municipal Court.
Officer Medina reported police found a baggy of methamphetamine and his dash camera recorded the baggy being dropped from the car. In addition, police found a glass pipe used for smoking meth on the floorboard of the car. The two men were taken to the Orange County Jail.
Three men with a pistol and a crowbar kicked in the door of an apartment on Pine Avenue Sunday night. Orange police said the two men, two women and girl inside were not seriously hurt. However, a 41-year-old woman and the girl were pushed to the floor.
Officer Brian Latiolais reported he went to the Sabine Park Apartments at 111 Pine Avenue at 10:48 Sunday night. A man and woman from Lake Charles were at the apartment with the residents. They said a man they know, along with two other men, kicked in the door armed with the pistol and handgun.
Detective Captain Robert Enmon said nothing was reported stolen and the injured people did not want to file charges.
Two men at the Cypress Cove Apartments, 3819 Meeks Drive, told Orange police they were robbed at gunpoint in their apartment. They said a white man holding two semi-automatic pistols and accompanied by a black man took two cell phones and a wallet. The robbery was about 3:30 a.m. Saturday.
People living in the Sikes Road Apartments at 4020 Sikes Road reported gunshots about noon Friday. Orange Patrol Officer J.L. Goins reported she found two bullet holes in the wall. The next door neighbors had fired a Browning .22 caliber handgun and the shots had gone through the wall, the officer reported.
On Saturday about 11:50 a.m., police went to 2425 16th Street after people called to report gunshots. Officer Leslie Lovelace reported people in a Chevrolet Impala that a man they know fired shots at the car and threw a log into the back window. The log broke the window.
A 55-year-old man from Orange was arrested Friday night for misdemeanor public intoxication after a pickup truck landed in a ditch off Interstate 10. Officer Nicholas Medina went to Interstate 10 East at Cole Creek about 9:15 p.m. Friday. He saw a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck in the ditch and a man standing behind the truck. Officer Medina reported he saw about 50 feet of damage to a guardrail.
The man appeared intoxicated and the officer said he could smell alcohol. However, the man was not behind the wheel of the pickup and no witnesses were at the scene. The man was taken to the Orange County Jail for public intoxication.
