A several thefts, including a grave marker and a wallet from a car parked at a church on Sunday, were reported to Orange police during the weekend period. The grave marker was reported Friday morning from Jett Cemetery on Old Highway 90 by the Brown Estate. A woman reported that a relative’s brass and concrete marker worth about $1,500 was missing.
A member of the St. Mary Catholic Church congregation called police at 11:30 Sunday morning to report that his wallet with cash and credit cards had been stolen from his car parked on Eighth Street. The victim told police he may have left a door unlocked.
Another wallet was reported stolen on Friday morning from a car parked in the 100 block of Schley Street. The wallet had cash and a debit card. The owner told police the debit card had been used by someone to buy gas.
A resident in the apartments at 111 Pine Avenue discovered on Sunday afternoon that someone got into her apartment through a bedroom window. A 42-inch TV, X-Box system and Wii system were stolen.
The manager of the Market Basket store received a head injury after a shoplifter pushed him and he fell to the concrete, according to Officer Corey Foreman. The thief took a package of boudain worth about $3. Officer Foreman said he went to the Market Basket at Northway Shopping Center at 7:30 Sunday morning. A man wearing blue jeans, a brown and blue plaid shirt and a brown hooded jacket placed a package of DJ’s Boudain in his front pocket.
Customers stopped him at the door but he pushed his way through the doors. Officer Foreman said the manager caught up with the man and the man pushed the manager. The manager ended up with a knot on his head after hitting the concrete. The thief got away, but could face robbery charges because of the physical contact.
