Law officers from several agencies went to the Dollar General store on 16th Street across from the Sonic Drive-In Monday morning. Store personnel suspected a robber might be outside and called the Orange Police Department a few minutes before 9 a.m. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said a clerk saw a man peeking around a corner and he looked like he had his face covered. Orange patrol officers, Orange County sheriff’s deputies and a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper searched the area but did not see anyone suspicious.
Personnel at the La Quinta Inn on Highway 62 South stopped a truck burglary in progress early Friday morning. However, a pickup truck at a nearby hotel wasn’t so lucky. A $3,450 piece of equipment was stolen after a break-in at the Studio 6 Hotel across the highway.
Orange police went to the La Quinta about 1 a.m. An employee reported looking at a security camera and seeing a gray Dodge Stratus with two men circling the parking lot. She saw a man get out and go to a Dodge pickup truck. The employee went out a back exit door and heard glass breaking. She yelled at the man and he ran away. Police found the back passenger door window in the truck broken.
About 7 Friday morning, a man staying at the Studio 6 Hotel called police after discovering that the back passenger window was broken. Pit Bull Fusion Machine was missing.
Saturday night Orange police stopped three juveniles in a car with 1.3 ounces of marijuana, cash and a small scale. Officer L.A. Lovelace said he stopped the Suzuki sedan at 8 p.m. on Cordrey Avenue at 10th Street because the car did not have an illuminated front license plate. When the officer turned on his emergency lights, he saw someone in the front passenger seat of the car throw something out the window.
After stopping the car, the officer smelled marijuana. Two boys were in the front and another boy was in the back seat. Another officer found a baggie of marijuana on the boy sitting in the front passenger seat. A baggie of marijuana was also found on the ground where it had been thrown. Officer Lovelace reported he found $192 cash in the car.
The parents of the boys were called and the boys were turned over to their custody. The car was towed away.
Police took a pistol for safe keeping after neighbors on Bruce Lane said the man pointed it at children in the street Saturday evening at 6:40. Officer J.L. Goins said several people saw the man point the gun at the children. She reported the gun was a Raven MP-25 and the man had a magazine with six bullets.
One home burglary in Orange was reported during the weekend. The resident of a house in the 700 block of Levingston Street called police at 10:20 p.m. Saturday. A 55-inch TV, a 32-inch TV and silver dollars were missing.
