The Orange City Council and the City’s Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors meet Tuesday morning and will consider extending an agreement to spend $650,000 on the Eagle Point land off Interstate 10 east of Highway 62.
Eighteen months ago the council and EDC board voted to spend that amount to build a boulevard entrance into the acreage if a big box store decided to build there.
The agreement with the Houseman Companies, which owns the land, included Houseman giving right-of-way land for the city to install utilities.
At this point, no corporation has decided to build and the city’s EDC agreement is set to expire. If approved, the agreement would be extended until June.
The EDC board meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and the council will meet afterward, with the schedule set for 9 a.m., though the EDC sometimes runs longer. Both meetings are in the council auditorium next to the Orange Public Library.

Members of the Orange City Council earlier this year asked the city staff to publicize openings on advisory committees and the effort has worked to get more citizens applying. On Tuesday, the council is set to make several appointments to boards and committees.
The city’s Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors has two openings and three applicants. George Mortimer, who has served as president of the board, is ineligible to be on the board because he has served eight years, the maximum under term limits.
Businessman Ebb Moore is currently on the board and can serve one more term. He has applied for reappointment. Also applying for the board are two businessmen, Michael Smith and Mark Frey.
Smith currently serves on the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission.
The Planning and Zoning Commission has three vacancies and six applicants. Terms have expired for Jamie Wilson, Mary Ekene and Cullin Smith, who currently serves as chair of the commission. The three incumbents have filed applications. Also filing are George Mortimer, Tiffany L. Bell and Weldon Smith.
The Historic Preservation Commission has two members whose terms have expired. They are Suzanne Perry and Curtis Jeanis. Both have reapplied to serve again. In addition, the commission has one current vacancy and City Planning Director Kelvin Knauf said member Harry Wood has indicated he is going to resign before his term ends next year.

The Citizens Advisory Commission reviews applications from social organizations applying to received federal Community Development Block Grants. Sarah Richard’s term on the board has expired and the board has one other vacancy.

Clifford Carrouthers has applied to be reappointed to the Library Advisory Board and Walter Riedel III has applied to be reappointed to the Civic Service Commission.
