A woman was seriously injured early Monday morning when the SUV she was driving rolled over as she tried to enter Interstate 10 westbound near the Toyota dealership in Orange.
Police report 40-year-old Jennifer Lynn Chappell of the Mauriceville area was taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont.
Police said Chappell was driving a Chevrolet Trax on the access road about 2:30 a.m. When she went to drive onto the interstate, the SUV missed the on-ramp and hit a pile of dirt. The vehicle went airborne and rolled over onto the driver’s side in the middle of the interstate.
Almost two hours after the roll-over, police arrested a 32-year-old man from Orange for driving under the influence of alcohol. Police reported the Orange Fire Department was cleaning the oil and fuel spill off the interstate. About 4:15 a.m., man driving a Dodge Avenger drove over four traffic cones and almost hit the side of the fire truck.
