Kam Wah Buffet on Strickland Drive in Pinehurst received an ‘F’ on a county health inspection on Tuesday. Inspector James Scales reports he will be making daily visits to the restaurant to assure the staff is working on improvements.
Scales gave the buffet a score of 63 and cited numerous violations. He said he was at the business when employees arrived that morning and found left-over fried shrimp in a bucket, left-over dirty dishes, and cooking started by employees without washing their hands. Food was stored in the ice machine. Employees also handled cooked foods with their bare hands. He found a “couple of dead roaches” in the restaurant’s storeroom.
Scales went to 11 businesses handling food during the first part of the month. Only one, Shiver Shack on North Highway 87 in Orange, had a perfect score. He also made a pre-opening inspection with no score for the Lakeview Exxon in Vidor.
