A Smoothie King is being built in West Orange in the shopping center parking lot near Wendy’s. West Orange Code Enforcement Inspector Dean Fuller said the building permit was issued for $175,000 worth of construction. The Smoothie King franchise has stores around the world selling custom-blended fruit and vegetable drinks. The smoothie drinks come in a variety of categories including a “slim blend” to help people lose weight and a “fitness blend” to for building muscle and tone, according to the company’s website.
In the City of Orange, the Orange Housing Authority’s construction once again led the amount of building permits issued for a month. A new HVAC system worth $246,830 is being installed at the new apartments on Park Avenue at the site of the former Pine Grove Apartments.
Interstate Tire and Mechanical on Highway 62 is getting a $178,000 remodeling. Also in the commercial category, the new Waffle House building under construction off Interstate 10 at 27th Street is getting a $2,500 fire suppression system and a $16,500 HVAC system.
A new office is being built for the Sunset Grove Apartments on Sunset Drive and the permits included $5,800 for a new HVAC for the apartments.
Three permits for a total of $32,415 were issued for residential remodeling jobs. One in the Tally-Ho subdivision was for $20,000.
Demolitions included one commercial permit issued to J.J. Royal Estates LLC to tear down the former King’s Inn on Interstate 10. A residential demolition permit was issued for a duplex at 111 E. Florida Street.
Other permits issued in Orange included one for a $3,925 residential storage building and two totaling $15,600 for residential concrete. Two residential carports are being built for a total of $6,987.
