46-year-old Shannon Lewandowski of Orange was seriously injured Monday morning about 9 in a head-on crash on FM 1006 by the DuPont plant entrance.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reports she had to be extricated and was then taken by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont. Trooper Stephanie Davis said that on Monday afternoon Lewandowski was undergoing surgery.
Trooper Davis said Lewandowski was traveling northbound in a Ford pickup truck and for some reason crossed the dividing line and hit a Chevrolet pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. The driver of the Chevrolet truck was 47-year-old Monty Klinkerman of Huffman. He was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital and DPS reports he suffered a head injury. Dwayne Moyer of Baytown was a passenger with Klinkerman. He was treated and released from St. Elizabeth.
Davis said DPS is continuing to investigate the crash. FM 1006 was closed for about two hours because of the crash and debris clean-up.
